This is a magazine by a spark plug manufacturer. There’s articles about all sorts of things. But, the cover is puzzling. There’s a woman in a sequin bathing suit standing in a barrel. The sign says “World’s Greatest Buy In A Barrel”. So, you buy a spark plug magazine, and you buy a barrel, and get . . . a girl?Nope, page 22 explains you get a rather complete 45-piece Melmac Service Set of plates, bowls, saucers, cups, gravy boat, lido glass set, punch bowl set, and why not some table cloths and napkins. And, of course, this giant barrel.What are you supposed to do with the barrel? Thankfully, page 23 explains . . . hundreds of things.I have no idea who thought spark plug retailers would want a bunch of heavy wooden barrels of kitchen decor to sell spark plugs. No idea if this worked either. But, either way, it’s a unique marketing effort embedded in a magazine.
