VINTAGE ACEITE MEXICAN OPIUM BOTTLE Mexican Oil Hausman Pharmacy Trinidad CO
Traditional remedy from Northern New Mexico. Used internally to soothe upset stomach or indigestion. Externally for insect bites and sore muscles and joints.Contains: Rhubarb Root, Star Anise, Cardamom, Cayenne, Triple Distilled Peppermint Oil. Last made in its original formula by Hausman Pharmacy in Trinidad, Colorado. The original formula had opium in it and Hausman stopped making it when opium became a controlled substance.
This is a bottle from an estate collection that had been in storage from 1966-2017. The original collection was over 4000 bottles. The family that built this collection was deeply into historical preservation and conservation. They did their own digging, which included collecting all the of the paper travel memorabilia as they traveled across the American West looking for these old bottles (and insulators, and rocks – but we didn’t get those collections). In some cases, we have items that were prepared for going to shows, and then we have boxes and boxes of bottles that are “freshly dug”.
